About the Artist

My inspiration can come from anywhere. It might be a marble sculpture, a stormy sky, the droop of a tulip or a piece of music. Through my art, I want to draw attention to the beauty around us and evoke a sense of wonder and respect for our planet. I hope to inspire a sense of connection to the environment while celebrating the power of imagination. While I don’t know where this artistic journey will take me, I will enjoy the ride and continue to see the beauty along the way.

As a lifetime art dabbler, and a former piano teacher, my journey to painting has been shaped by a unique blend of experiences. After completing an MBA and writing grants for cancer research, I took on a significant administrative portfolio in a local health authority. While my career was fulfilling, it wasn’t until 2016 when, with the encouragement of a friend, I began art classes.

My coursework at the Vancouver Island School of Art marked a transformative period in my life. I honed skills in drawing, sculpting and photography, and balanced disciplined studio time with free play in the studio.

I first called myself an artist in 2018 when I presented an original series: Unreal Birds. This whimsical collection of chicken-inspired bird creatures has evolved into a more broadly defined series on Creatures. There is a certain joy in depicting cows, goats and chickens. They resonate with viewers and bring smiles to many.

Over time, I have become very interested in abstracted nature paintings, particularly imagined landscapes and falling florals. I find beauty in unconventional scenes; whether it is a melting polar mountain, sagging trees or flowers just beyond their prime. Often life’s beautiful moments are delicately balanced with a tinge of nostalgia or sadness.
